Imagine making artisan cheeses with your own hands!
As Americans, we seem to have an insatiable appetite for cheese; especially great tasting cheese made by passionate artisanal cheesemakers. The enjoyment of hand-crafted artisan cheeses and related cultured dairy products has become part of our mainstream food culture. Cheese is, by the whey, an ancient form of nourishment developed in numerous forms for thousands of years in nearly every country. There are more than 2,000 varieties identified around the world. The making of cheese is magical and often times remarkably simple, even in one's own kitchen.

Elements of Taste offers lessons in home-crafted cheesemaking

If you are a cheese making enthusiast (or have one in your life), come along with Mary to explore this ancient yet contemporary form of preservation. Fueled by her love for this ancient form of nourishment—through self-guided explorations into the countries and cultures that make hand-crafted cheeses and more than 15 years of inspiration from local and regional artisan cheesemakers—Mary generously shares her knowledge about home-crafted cheesemaking.

Mary's cheesemaking classes and parties are designed to inspire and encourage do-it-yourselfers with approachable easy-to-follow steps to becoming a successful hobbyist cheesemaker.

Mary's next book, Making Home-Crafted Artisan Cheese, is an extension of her classes and will be THE comprehensive book about all aspects of making home-crafted artisan cheeses. It will be published in spring 2011 by Ten Speed Press. If you would like to be notified when the book is available, please send an email to Mary.

“As a cooking teacher, Mary has followed in the footsteps of many great chef-mentors, but she has managed to develop a style all of her own. Mary's passions come through in her recipes, lessons, and interactions with others.
The reactions from her students say it: "Give us more of Mary!" "Best class ever!" "When is her next cooking class?" I share in the excitement of Mary's cooking class students.”
